Barbara Dunne began her musical career as a singer songwriter. After winning several big song contests and touring around Ireland and Europe, she decided to return to education. Her talents as a pianist and composer were quickly evident and in her first year, the artist won first prize in a piano competition that landed her a performance in the National Concert Hall, and a nomination for the Markiewicz Medal in composition. Barbara continued on to receive a Masters in Composition from NUI Maynooth and had one or her compositions premiered in Paris. She is an associate of the Royal Irish Academy (teacher) and Trinity College London (performer).
Known as an arranger and pianist, Barbara was commissioned by The K Club in Straffan to record a set of cd's that are exclusive to them. Her music is also currently played on all long haul flights with Aer Lingus.
Today Barbara divides her time between teaching and playing recitals, sometimes solo and sometimes with her duo PianoSax. She plays some jazz, some classical and some of her own arrangements. Some of her work has been published by the Royal Irish Academy of Music and Beechpark Records Rathcoole.
Classic Irish Melodies is a new album out now. It is a collection of irish ballads arranged and played by the artist.
